I’m Kathryn Powell, an arcahaeologist. I’m recently graduated from university with a B.A. in Anthropology. I’m currently a CRM archaeologist and I really love being in the field! Hopefully I can continue doing shovelbum work and become a really knowledgeable silver-back in this business- without all of the back/knee issues that so many of my predecessors seem to have by the time they hit 35.

When not doing archaeology I’ve recently picked up the interest of getting certified as a personal trainer as a side job when archaeology jobs are hard to find. I’m close to getting certified and will hopefully be able to get some clients for the next off-season of archaeology.

When not on a project or working on my certification I usually like to read- admittedly I’m a total nerd and love comics and sci-fi/fantasy/historical fiction (usually something allong the lines of “Asian”, Medieval, or U.S. revolutionary war) novels. I also train martial arts on my own when on a job or at the dojo I’ve been at for the past 12 years. I also like working out, usually with free weights, but lately I’ve been trying to get into sprinting and some running for conditioning for archaeology work on pedestrian survey jobs.

I also like watching Netflix and movies. I love kung-fu/martial arts films- especially the more obscure ones, but I grew up watching Jackie Chan, Jet LI, and Bruce Lee so the “oldies” are goodies. I also really like the Marvel movies and the DCcomics TV series- the flash/green arrow- as well as sci-fi like Firefly, Battlestar Galactica (2002 reboot), Star wars, Star Trek, and Stargate. These types of shows and movies I really enjoy watching/rewatching when hanging out with family and friends.

While I’m not interested really at all in politics or debates I’d like to be open on this forum. I’d probably identify as a conservative Christian, but don’t let that mislead you, I try my very best to be open minded, understanding, and kind/loving to any and all.
“The most important one [commandment] is this… Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31

I’m a Christian, a martial artist, an archaeologist, and a nerd. This blog is mainly for me to practise my writing skills and write about my own personal musings that generally relate to my archaeology career, but if you like what I write about, then that’s cool too.

Happy reading.
